Latest Update: KVS Admission 2020-21 Registration form for Class 1-12 has been started from 20, July 2020 and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has released the revised guidelines for Admissions in Kendriya Vidyalayas for Academic Session 2020-21 on the KVS official website i.e. Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission details can be obtained also through KVS Android Mobile App. Parents and students can register for KVS Online Admission Form on the Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission official website i.e. KVS Admission 2020-21 for Class 1-12 was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown issues across the country.

Now, KVS Online Admission 2020-21 for Class 1st has been started from 20th July 2020 at 10:00 am and will close at 7:00 pm on 07th Aug 2020 and Registration for Class 2nd and above has been started from 20th July 2020 at 8:00 am to 25th July 2020 up to 4:00 pm if vacancies exist (in offline mode). Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2020-21: Revised Guidelines

As per the revised Admission guidelines issued by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan have some minor changes. KVS Online Admission 2020-21 guidelines are for both new and existing candidates. From 2020-21, 27% of seats will be reserved for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, as decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in December 2019. Below are some key points mentioned in the new guidelines: 

  • Admissions for Class 1st would be conducted through an online draw of lots.
  • Admissions from Class 2nd to 8th would be done on a priority basis
  • Admissions to Class 9th will be made on the basis of an entrance exam.
  • Admissions to Class 11th would be done on the basis of Class 10th marks of the candidates.
  • Admission of fresh students to Class 10th and Class 12th are subject to availability.

KVS Online Admission 2020-21: Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply For KVS Online Admission 2020-21?

Kendriya Vidyalaya seats are divided into five categories:

  1. The first preference is for the wards of central govt employees.
  2. The second preference is for the children of the Army and Ex-army.
  3. The third preference is for the children of state government employees.
  4. The fourth preference is for the single girl child quota.
  5. The fifth preference is for the children of private or self-employed personnel.

The following priorities of seat allotment shall be followed in granting admissions in Defence/ Central and State Government jobs:

  • 1st preference for children of transferable and non-transferable Central Govt. employees and ex-servicemen.
  • 2nd preference for children of transferable and non-transferable employees of autonomous bodies/ PSU/ Institute of Higher Learning of Govt of India.
  • 3rd preference for children of transferable and non-transferable state government employees.
  • 4th preference for children of transferable and non-transferable employees of autonomous bodies/ PSU/ Institute of Higher Learning of State Governments.
  • 5th preference for the Children from any other category including the children of Foreign Nationals.

Note: Preference in Admission to wards will be based on the number of transfers of the parents in the last 7 years.

This year under the special provision for admission, The wards of NSG and Assam Rifles included. KVS has now included the wards of PSUs/Autonomous Bodies/ IHL for a recommendation from VMC.


Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2020-21: Age Limit

The child must be 5 years old as on 31st March in the academic year in which admission is sought for Class I. (Child born on 1st April should also be considered.)

The minimum and maximum age limit for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas in various classes are given below:

How to Register for KVS Online Admission 2020-21?

Step 1 – Visit the KVS Admission official website i.e. On the homepage click on the “Register” tab or “New Registration” button shown in the picture.



Step 2 – Read all the important instructions carefully (available in both English and Hindi). After going through all the instructions, mark the declaration and click on the “Proceed” button.



Step 4 – Now Enter all the details in the space provided such as First Name, Last Name, Email ID, Mobile Number, Captcha Code, etc, then click on the “Register” option.



Step 5 – Now enter the OTP received in your mobile and click on the “Verify” button.



Step 6 – Finally Registration is complete. Keep the login ID safe and take a Printout of the registration details for further references.



How to Fill KVS Online Admission 2020-21 form for Class 1?

Step 1 – Open the Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission portal and Click on the “Login” option. Enter Login code, DOB, Mobile no., and Captcha code, then click on the “Login” button.



Step 2 – Application form will open. Fill all the details as asked in the form and click “Next“.



Step 3 – Fill the parent’s details and click on the “Next” button.



Step 4 – Fill your choice of schools (Only three KVs) and Click “Next”.



Step 5 – Now, upload the required documents.



Step 6 – Click on the “Preview” button and cross-check all the filled details. Now, submit the application form.



Step 7 – Enter and “Verify” the OTP.



Step 8 – The application will be submitted successfully. “Print” the application form for future references.

Method of  KVS Online Admission 2020-21 in Class 1

Out of the available seats of fresh admission 25% shall be reserved for Right To Education, 15% shall be reserved for SC, 7.5% shall be reserved for ST and 27% seats shall be reserved for “OBC- Non-Creamy Layer”.

After the admission of students under the RTE Act followed by Differently Abled, the children belonging to Cat-1 will be taken up. The students admitted under Cat-1 will also include SC/ST/OBC-NCL. Similarly, after the admission of Cat-1, admission of Cat-2 will be taken up which will include SC/ST/OBC-NCL (up to Cat-3 in case of Project/IHL School).

The shortfall in the number of candidates on seats reserved for SC, ST, and OBC-NCL will be worked out after considering the number of SC/ST/OBC-NCL children admitted under RTE quota and Priority Cat-1 and Cat-2.

The reservation norms shall be applicable within approved class strength 40 students per section

RTE 25% : 10 seats
SC 15% : 06 seats
ST 7.5% : 03 seats
OBC 27% : 11 seats

Method of KVS Admission 2020-21 in Class 2 to 8

Admission test shall not be conducted for admission to Class II to VIII and the admission may be granted based on the Priority category system (1 to 5 or 6 as the case may be). If applications are more than the number of seats, the lottery system will be followed in each category including single girl child quota (Class VI Onwards).

Process of Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2020-21 in Class 9

  1. For admission to Class IX, an admission test shall be conducted and a merit list will be prepared for each category of priority separately. Admission shall be granted in the sequence of priority categories, in the order of merit.
  2. Admission test shall be conducted in the subjects: Hindi, English, Maths, Social Science, and Science.
  3. There will be only one paper of Admission test of 3 Hours duration & 100 marks comprising Hindi, English, Maths, Social Science and Science each of 20 marks.
  4. Candidates must secure 33% marks in aggregate to qualify. Students belonging to SC/ST/Divyang category (PH) will be eligible for admission on securing 25% in aggregate.

KVS Admission 2020-21 for Students of N.I.O.S / State Boards / ICSE in Class 9

The students of State Boards/ICSE/NIOS may be considered for admission in Class XI if vacancies exist.

Process of Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2020-21 in Class 11

KV Students:

Admission in different streams viz Science, Commerce, Humanities of Class XI in KVs for KV students will be based on aggregate marks scored in class X exams as under:

(i) Science Stream: A minimum of 60% Marks in aggregate of all subjects.
(ii) Commerce: A minimum of 55% Marks in aggregate of all subjects.
(iii) Humanities Stream: All students of KV if declared successful in class X exam

Note: If seats remain vacant in class XI even after admitting the children of KV/ neighboring KVs then the admissions to non – KV children may be granted on the same criteria, in the sequence of categories of priority.

Process of Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2020-21 for Class 10 & 12

Fresh admissions to Class X & XII, other than KV students, will be entertained subject to availability of vacancies. Such admissions to class X and XII will be considered by the Deputy Commissioner of the Region concerned, only if, the average strength in class X/XII is below 40. This will further be subject to the following conditions:

  1. The child has been in the same course of studies i.e. in a CBSE-affiliated school.
  2. For Class X, the child must have obtained not less than 55% marks in aggregate in class IX.
  3. For admission to class XII, 55% marks in class XI examination is mandatory.
  4. The child should otherwise be eligible as per KVS admission guidelines.
  5. The combinations of subjects opted by the student are available in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
